Marion Motley (1920-1999).

Above, a signed “Marion Motley Day” Program, from 1968, the year he became the second black player voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, also located in his hometown of Canton, Ohio.

One of the first blacks to play professionally (with the Cleveland Browns, 1946-53, and the Pittsburgh Steelers until 1955), Motley was a leading pass-blocker and rusher, ending his career averaging 5.7 yards per carry, a fullback record that still stands.

In addition, The Mitchell Collection also holds Motley’s personal 1938 Canton McKinley High School Graduation Yearbook.
